Reb’s Notes…
Another excellent artist has come aboard Reb’s Art! Augustine’s art is quite wild, and will have submissive males that love CBT quivering in their skin. His art fits into a much-needed niche, as submissive male art is rather difficult to find.
So, without further ado, I introduce you to:
Augustine…
Born in Florida and raised pretty much all over the U.S., I have no formal art training, nor do I work as an artist in any capacity (I think most of my co-workers would be shocked to discover that I can draw at all!). Rather, drawing is for me a very relaxing hobby and I generally don’t sit down for an evening without a sketchbook handy.
The erotic nature of bondage and discipline has intrigued me for as long as I can remember, from the heroines in peril from the TV shows of my childhood to the more elaborate and overtly sexual fantasies now made more widely accessible by the internet. Though without any training, I found very early that a blank sheet of paper and a pencil were wonderful tools for working out the ideas in my head. Later on I discovered the work of some truly gifted artists and was inspired to develop my own works a bit more.
The first artists I encountered were J. Ashley and Bishop. I think what I liked most about their works, apart from the obvious skill and talent involved, was the extreme and inventive bondage situations they came up with for their subjects. There are plenty of bondage sites, art or photography out there, but to me the real freedom of the rendered work was the ability to create situations that are limited only by the artist’s imagination. Of course, it’s a fine line. The sort of scenario that intrigues me most is pretty extreme on the one hand but one that is, on the other, certainly a conceivable possibility. This sort of art falls into the realm of fantasy (and rightly so!) but any good fantasy has to be at least accessible enough for us to imaginatively project ourselves into it.
Later on I discovered the works of Lee and Stargraves, who still rank as some of my all time favorites. Again the elaborate bondage devices, extreme scenarios and imaginative story lines had tremendous appeal. At the other end of the artistic spectrum were the works of Soroyama and Huerta whose magnificently rendered figures were almost photographic in their realism. To this day I would love to see a combination of those styles - the great realism of Soroyama, etc., with the extreme and exotic settings of Lee or Bishop. To some extent that was why I started drawings of my own, to blend more realistic figures with the outlandish scenarios I so enjoyed. To this day I wish I had some idea of how to use an air-brush or even a regular paint brush with any skill so as to create something of the rich colors I so enjoy in others’ work.
As far as the subject matter goes, clinical fetishes are of great appeal to me and whippings and beatings are not. While there are some great artists working in the area of female submission, I have not found much appealing in the area of female domination, either in subject matter or artistic quality. To me (and this is just an opinion - everyone’s tastes are different), most of the femdom work I’ve seen follows the same formula - leather clad dominatrix, bull whip and minimal bondage. I think I finally decided that if I was going to see images of the sort I was interested in, I would have to draw them for myself. I shared a few with some internet groups and was pleased to see that there were others that had similar interests. Many shared their own ideas with me and it was a great pleasure to create some of these scenarios myself. The work you see here is the result of this process. I hope if it’s the sort of thing that appeals to you, you find great enjoyment in it.
